The story of Dalida and Chahine

As 2026 marks Chahine’s centenary, I created this mural as a tribute to honor the collaboration of two iconic figures who are deeply celebrated in both Egypt and France.

Dalida, the French singer, was born in Egypt and passed away in France. She recorded songs in Arabic for her Egyptian audience and remained deeply tied to Egypt and her memories there.

Youssef Chahine, an Egyptian director, had numerous French co-productions and was married to a French woman, which forged a strong bond with France and made him a well-known figure in French society.

Depicting a shot from the last film of Dalida directed by the legend Youssef Chahine “The Sixth Day” , where she played a role of an Egyptian woman wearing the traditional costume for the whole film and speaking the Egyptian dialect.

The mural was accompanied by a QR Code that shows a quick video of Dalida getting ready for the character, with her song of the same name of the film inspired by it.
