The story of Maged Helal

This mural is dedicated to my dear friend, Maged Helal, an Egyptian photographer and a beautiful human-being. We lost him in a tragic accident the same day I arrived to Copenhagen to paint a mural, due to lack of safety measures.

Our birthdays were just a day apart:

October 26th: his 40th birthday.

October 27th: my birthday.

October 29th: the day he passed away.

My grief made me unable to create or sketch, so I decided to dedicate this mural to him.

The last picture we took a few days before the accident

As his own father has passed 17 years ago, every year on his anniversary, Maged would always post a photo of them together when he was a baby expressing how much he misses his dad and looking forward to meeting him in heaven. This mural depicts one of his baby pictures with his late father that he loves.

Ironically yet sadly, on his birthday, Maged was wearing a t-shirt with his birthdate and the current date not knowing it's his death date as well.
